Local, State and Federal Veteran Services
All In One Location At The Same Time
The Stand Down for veterans will be modeled after the Stand Down concept used during the Vietnam War to provide a safe retreat for units returning from combat operations. At secure base camp areas, troops were able to take care of personal hygiene, get clean uniforms, enjoy warm meals, receive medical and dental care, mail and receive letters, and enjoy the camaraderie of friends in a safe environment. Stand Down afforded battle-weary soldiers the opportunity to renew their spirit, health and overall sense of well-being. We will offer our veterans an opportunity to come together, relax and receive the benefits they have earned.
The Stand Down is a Veterans’ assistance and resource fair designed to bring all facets of veterans’ programs to one location. From veteran organizations to assistance providers, it is an opportunity to learn about available programs and services. All veterans are invited to see what is available. Join us for a free Mission BBQ lunch at noon.
The Stark County Stand Down is brought to you by the SAM Center. SAM Center operates a free commissary for veterans in need. SAM also provides veterans transitioning from homelessness to housing with lodging kits that contains everything, except furniture, the veteran needs to make their new place a home.
Vietnam Veterans 50th Anniversary Recognition will take place at noon. All Vietnam veterans will receive a pin in honor of their service.
